I'm trying to stay in one place for a few years, for the first time
in my life. It's an experiment...in fact, lot of what I do could be
called an experiment. I hate to lose but pretend (poorly) that I
don't care. I'm pretty competent at life, and admire other people
who are competent too. I'm big on high fives and hugs. People say
I'm a smartass.
What I hate the most = pretense, being spoken to like I am stupid,
things that are meant to be clever but are in fact totally artless
and obvious, almost anything trying very hard at all to be clever,
in any context; those Life is Good shirts.
What I like the most = snow, when strangers are super nice to me
for no reason, really excellent writing, showers that I have
earned, really horrible writing (like, think
Dianetics),
singing my thoughts out loud when I am in the mood for it, being
challenged (even to do the impossible), sleeeeeeeeeep.

In between MA and PhD (in English) phases. Trying to get out of
debt. Trying to play tennis as much as possible while I'm still
young and agile.

making people feel important, making people feel unimportant,
finding things amusing, fixing shit just barely enough, smiling
ingratiatingly, rolling my eyes, complaining about heat and/or
humidity, tennis, and hurting myself, apparently.

Movies: based on books, mostly, but also Clue (based on a board

Music: KRS-One, De la Soul, Dead Prez; also, Ani DiFranco &
Indigo Girls; also, Cat Power, Built to Spill, Pavement, Joan of
Arc; also, Bad Religion, Face to Face, Against Me!; also, The
Chieftains, Leahy, Green Linnet

another good example but you probably get it), ways in which I
might be causing my own problems, why people act like jerks in
different situations, what makes things funny, what makes a story
compelling, the inner lives of real and imaginary people

debating with a friend or companion about whether the
[bar/restaurant/strip club] is too crowded to bother...or watching
DVDs and blazing a little bit
